ABOUT

Djura Missionshus is a residential recording studio located in Dalarna, Sweden, run by artist, producer and songwriter Karin Park and musician Kjetil Nernes (Årabrot).

Housed in a former mission hall from 1877, the studio offers a recording environment that differs from traditional, purpose-built facilities. The main hall functions as a large live room with natural acoustics, high ceilings and a sense of space that is difficult to replicate in conventional studios. It is particularly well suited for artists looking to capture performances with depth, air and character rather than tightly controlled, isolated sound.

The studio is designed as a fully integrated live-and-work environment. Artists stay on site, which allows for uninterrupted sessions and a more focused workflow.

Recording, writing and production happen in the same place, without the fragmentation that often comes with urban studio setups.

Djura Missionshus has hosted artists and bands from across Europe and the UK, and is used both for Karin Park’s own productions and for external projects. Recordings connected to the studio include work by Årabrot and collaborations involving producers such as Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys), Jaime Arellano Gomez (Ghost, Opeth) and Greg Norman (Godspeed You Black Emperor, Guided By Voices), musicians and singers like Stephen O’Malley (Sunno), Marion Raven, LaGaylia Frazier and Helene Bøksle as well as international artists working across alternative, electronic and experimental genres.

Karin Park brings extensive experience as a songwriter, producer and artist with an international career spanning Norway, the UK and Europe, across the electronic scene. Kjetil Nernes is the founder and frontman of Årabrot, an internationally established band with releases on labels such as Fysisk Format and Pelagic Records, and collaborations with producers including Steve Albini.

Together, they have built a studio that reflects their way of working: independent, artist-driven and focused on long-term quality rather than fast turnaround.

Djura Missionshus is best suited for artists who want:

  • A distinctive recording space with natural acoustics
  • A residential setup for concentrated sessions
  • An alternative to conventional studio environments
  • Access to experienced artists and producers

This is not a high-volume commercial studio.

It is a place for focused work, where the environment is part of the result.
